Carseat Recalls |
What You Need To Know About Carseat Recalls
Carseat recalls are not uncommon. Just like every other product, carseats can be recalled because
of defects that can injure.
You can find out about carseat recalls in many ways. There are listings on the Internet,
they get broadcasted in the news, and, if you registered your car seat, the manufacturer will notify you
by mail if there is a recall. If you find out your carseat is being recalled, be sure to fix it right away.
Before you go about fixing a recalled seat, be sure yours is being recalled. Find the seats
label and make sure that the manufacturer, manufacture date, and name or number of model match. If they do,
call the manufacturer, they are required by law to fix the problems for free when they have carseat recalls.
Be sure to have all information about the seat on-hand when you call.
Most times carseat recalls are for minor problems, and the seat does not need to be sent back.
The manufacturer will simply send you the parts and instructions for fixing it yourself. If a recalled carseat
is ever beyond repair, or the company no longer exists to fix it, you will be told to destroy the seat.
You should completely destroy it so that it will never be able to be used, and throw it out.
If you ever have a defective seat, or suspect problems with one, call the Auto Safety Hotline,
and the manufacturer to report it. Parents catch many problems first, and then carseat recalls are issued.
